One Solana in US dollars. The live rate is shown in the converter at the top of this page and refreshes every sixty seconds from the CoinGecko SOL/USD aggregate. What 1 SOL Actually Represents

Solana’s per-coin price is dramatically lower than Bitcoin’s or Ethereum’s because the total supply is much larger — several hundred million SOL in circulation compared to 21 million BTC or ~120 million ETH. That is the first thing to understand about comparing SOL to other majors. The “price per coin” is a superficial number; what matters is market cap, and on that measure Solana is one of the top cryptocurrencies globally.

One SOL at current prices has practical consequences on the Solana network. It is more than enough to:

  • Cover hundreds of thousands of transactions. Solana fees are fractions of a cent — typically 5,000 lamports (0.000005 SOL) for a simple transfer and a bit more for complex instructions. A 1 SOL balance is effectively unlimited gas for any normal user.
  • Stake directly. Unlike Ethereum’s 32 ETH minimum for solo staking, Solana has no minimum for delegated staking. You can stake any amount of SOL to any validator and start earning the network’s staking yield, currently in the 6-8% range depending on validator commission and network participation.
  • Participate in every Solana DEX, lending protocol and NFT market. Jupiter, Orca, Raydium, Kamino, Marinade — all of them work fine with a wallet holding 1 SOL or less.
  • Buy a mid-priced NFT. Solana’s NFT market has been one of the most active in crypto since 2021, and the typical floor price for established collections has fluctuated between a fraction of a SOL and several SOL depending on market conditions.

Why SOL/USD Moves the Way It Does

Solana’s price has a few distinct drivers that make it behave differently from BTC and ETH:

On-chain activity. More so than any other large cap crypto, Solana’s price tracks its on-chain usage closely. When DEX volume, active addresses, and real-time transactions are climbing, SOL tends to outperform. When activity stalls, SOL underperforms. The chain’s throughput advantage only matters if it is actually being used, and the market prices that tightly.

Memecoin and consumer app cycles. Solana has become the dominant venue for memecoin trading (pump.fun and similar launchpads) and consumer-facing crypto applications. When these segments are hot, SOL picks up fees and staking rewards from the activity and the price moves. When the memecoin narrative cools, SOL cools with it.

Outage risk and recovery. Solana has historically experienced several network-wide outages, most prominently in 2021 and 2022. Each of those events has been bearish for SOL in the short term — sometimes sharply so — and the chain’s price includes some ongoing discount for the perceived risk. The reliability record has improved substantially since 2023 but the memory persists in the valuation.

ETF speculation. As of 2025, the market is actively pricing in the possibility of a spot Solana ETF following the Bitcoin and Ethereum approvals. Each incremental sign of regulatory warming has typically been bullish for SOL. An actual approval would likely produce a significant one-time repricing.

SOL vs ETH in USD Terms

At recent prices, 1 ETH has been worth roughly 15-25 SOL in most market conditions. The ratio has narrowed meaningfully since 2022, reflecting the market pricing Solana as a more serious competitor to Ethereum than it did in the earlier days. Whether the ratio continues to compress or reverses depends on whether the L2-scaled Ethereum story or the L1-scaled Solana story wins market share in the long run. The honest answer is that both can succeed in different segments.
