Optimism (OP)

What is Optimism?

Optimism is an Ethereum layer-2 ecosystem best known for OP Mainnet: an optimistic rollup that executes transactions off-chain, batches them, and anchors security to Ethereum L1. Users get lower fees and faster confirmation times than mainnet for most apps, while still relying on Ethereum for settlement and dispute assumptions.

The project also champions the OP Stack—open-source rollup software reused by multiple networks in the Superchain vision (for example Base, among others). That shared stack can mean aligned upgrades, tooling, and a coordinated approach to sequencer and governance evolution, though each chain retains its own operator and risk profile.

OP is the governance token for the Optimism Collective: holders and delegates vote on protocol upgrades, grants, and funding priorities.
