What is Lido DAO?

Lido is a liquid staking protocol: instead of locking native tokens in a chain’s staking contract with no secondary market, users receive a liquid staking token (on Ethereum, stETH) that tends to reflect staking rewards over time while remaining usable in DeFi. That model helped scale participation in proof-of-stake networks without forcing every staker to run validators.

LDO is the governance token for the Lido DAO. Holders vote on protocol upgrades, fees, node-operator sets, and risk parameters—high-stakes decisions because liquid staking touches chain security and DeFi composability. Lido has also expanded beyond Ethereum to other networks with their own LST mechanics.

Liquid staking is not a free lunch: smart-contract risk, slashing risk (indirectly via the staking layer), and secondary-market pricing of LSTs versus the underlying asset all matter.
